The Blue Lagoon, the Troodos road, and the rest of Cyprus.
Which Akamas boat actually anchors in the lagoon. What a jeep day to Lara Bay costs. Whether the Zenobia is too deep for a first dive. Every tour on the island, reviewed.
The Cyprus days that go first.
Every review →Boats out of Latchi, buggies into the Akamas, a long table up in the Troodos villages. More travellers take these than anything else on the island.

Blue Lagoon: three ways to reach the same water.
All Blue Lagoon cruises →
Latchi harbour empties every morning. Big catamarans with a slide off the back, small hulls that stop where the green turtles feed, and coach-and-boat days that pick up along the Paphos strip. The water is the same colour on all of them; the day is not.

Slide off the back, lunch on the deck
Coach up the Akamas coast, swap onto a catamaran at Latchi, an hour at anchor in the lagoon with the slide down and the barbecue lit.
The six days most Cyprus holidays are built around.
A boat to the lagoon, a track into the Akamas, the mountain villages, the wrecks, an evening on the water and the old stones. Everything else is a variation on these.
The east coast sells the sea by the half day.
Cape Greco arches, Konnos Bay, the sea caves north of Ayia Napa. Boats leave the two harbours every hour through the summer and most of them run twice. The dive schools work the same water an hour earlier.
The Troodos road is the other Cyprus.
An hour inland the temperature drops ten degrees and the pines start. Painted churches under shingle roofs, Omodos and Lefkara on the wine route, and a village lunch that runs to nine plates before the meat arrives.
All 28 Troodos day trips →Cyprus, sorted by the price of the day.
From a harbour ticket to a chartered boat, with the most-booked run in each band underneath.
Harbour cruises, water park tickets, a first dive and the short runs up the mountain.
The island standard: Akamas boats, jeep and buggy safaris, Troodos wine days with lunch.
The Akamas, the Zenobia and the rock Aphrodite came out of.
Painted churches and beach clubs run right round the Mediterranean. A roadless peninsula, a ferry lying on its side at sixteen metres and a birthplace myth on a pebble beach belong to this island.

The Akamas Peninsula
Cyprus keeps its last roadless corner between Coral Bay and the northern tip: a dirt track over the Avakas Gorge, loggerhead turtles nesting at Lara Bay, and the freshwater pool the Baths of Aphrodite are named for. Nothing without four-wheel drive gets down it, which is why every Paphos operator sells the same track and no two runs feel the same.

The Zenobia
A Swedish ferry rolled over outside Larnaca in 1980 with its lorries still chained to the deck, and it has been the best-known wreck dive in the Mediterranean ever since. The top of the hull sits shallow enough for a guided first dive; the cargo deck and the bridge are why instructors keep going back.

Petra tou Romiou
The stack of rock on the coast road between Paphos and Limassol is where Aphrodite is said to have come ashore out of the foam. It is a pebble beach with a hard current and an extraordinary light at dusk, and nearly every west-coast tour stops there because the story is older than the road.

More Cyprus tours leave Paphos than anywhere else.
Harbour cruises up to the Akamas, jeep tracks to Lara Bay, the wine road that climbs to Omodos, and the mosaics five minutes from the fort. The west coast is where the island keeps its widest choice of days.

Cyprus eats late, once the heat lets go.
All evening tours →Book these before you land in Cyprus.
Most of the island can be booked from a sun lounger the night before. These cannot. They run on deck space, dive slots and a summer calendar that starts filling in May.
- 01Private Diving at Zenobia Wreck in LarnakaGuided wreck dives go out per instructor, so the group size caps the morning.
- 02WaterWorld Themed WaterPark Admission Ticket in Ayia NapaEntry is dated, and the middle of a July day is the part that sells.
- 03Wave Dancer Fireworks Night CruiseOne departure an evening and the deck is the limit.
- 04Value for money Quad & Buggy Tour to Lara Bay and Adonis FallsYou drive it yourself, so a full licence is checked at the meeting point.
A Cyprus July is planned around water, or altitude.
Nicosia clears 40 degrees in August and the coast is only a few degrees behind. Every good answer is wet or high: a boat with shade and a swim ladder, a dive where the water sits in the mid twenties, or the drive up to Troodos where the pines start and the air changes.
